Agave Uptown Plans a Wine-Pairing Dinner

The wines will come from Fernando Candelario's Voces Cellars.

Oakland's Agave Uptown restaurant is hosting a wine-paired dinner with Voces Cellars on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Napa Valley-based Voces is owned by first-generation winemaker Fernando Candelario (depicted above) and his family. Voces specializes in small boutique batches, aged in French and American oak barrels for twelve to eighteen months.

The $75 (inclusive of tax and gratuity) prix-fixe five-course menu includes Sonoma Coast Rack of Lamb with oven-roasted figs paired with a Napa Valley Zinfandel 2012; a Scallop served over estofado, microgreens, and pumpkin seeds with a Napa Valley Red Blend 2010; Hierva Santa Mole Verde Short Ribs with chayote and granada with a Napa Valley Petite Sirah 2012; Mole Negro De Oaxaca, ribeye steak with wild mushrooms and blackberries with a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013; and Galletas Mexicanas Chocolate De Oaxaca.

Executive chef and restaurant entrepreneur Octavio Diaz was born near Oaxaca, Mexico, then moved to Rohnert Park as a teenager. After earning a college degree in hotel and restaurant management, he worked at such venues as the Sonoma Wine Country Hilton and Petaluma Sheraton, then opened his own Agave Mexican Restaurant & Tequila Bar in Healdsburg in 2010 before launching Agave Uptown in Oakland's Kapor Center last year.
