Lachu Moorjani, long-time owner of Berkeley's Ajanta Restaurant, has just announced that he has sold the much-loved, multi-award-winning Solano Avenue business, a dish from which is depicted above.

"At the age of 73, I find that I get very tired and do not have the energy needed to properly run the restaurant. Most of you may not have expected this to happen, and I am sad that this has to happen," Moorjani explains.

"On a positive note, the buyers are experienced restaurateurs and currently own 3 successful restaurants. They bring resources and experience base to match or exceed my abilities and are very committed to upholding or improvin on the standards set by me.

"The buyers do want me to stay as the executive chef and maître d', pretty much doing what you see me doing during your visits. I will be transitioning out slowly, after making sure that my successors are ready to take over."
