Oakland-based Belcampo Meat Co. is lining up to open its first-ever commissary kitchen in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood this spring — followed, this summer, by a 7,000-square-foot flagship location at San Mateo's Hillsdale Shopping Center.

In the process, the renowned organic meat company will shutter its current Palo Alto location as well as its Russian Hill shop in San Francisco.

Both moves are part of Belcampo's expansion into the emerging realms of e-commerce, food delivery, and large-format dining experiences as manifested at the company's Oakland and Santa Monica flagships as well as its forthcoming New York City location, set to open next month.

These changes are "bittersweet for me," said co-founder and CEO Anya Fernald.

"We have had a great run in both our Peninsula and San Francisco locations, but we could not be more thrilled to partner with Bohannon Development Company and bring the Belcampo experience to the Hillsdale Shopping Center," Fernald said.

Belcampo's San Mateo culinary program will spotlight elegantly rustic fare in a fine-casual format, focusing on expertly butchered meats and seasonality. The menu will include classic and internationally inspired dishes such as freshly prepared dry-aged steaks, the 100 Day Aged Burger, and more. A butcher case will offer fresh cuts, cured and packaged meats, and more.

“The new North Block Development Project will be an entertainment-centric destination for the region, and Belcampo brings the perfect mix of rich guest experience and best-in-class food," said Bohannon Development Company CEO Robert Webster.

"We’re thrilled to welcome this new addition to Hillsdale Shopping Center.”

The Palo Alto and San Francisco locations will close their doors on March 2 after having stopped serving cooked food on Feb. 18. During their final week in business, customers can acquire goodie bags packed with e-commerce discounts, gift cards, and more.

"I am also excited to transform our business model in San Francisco to better suit the city’s needs," Fernald added.

"We’ll be able to fulfill cooked food fast out of our new commissary kitchen in SoMa and deliver it to homes all over the city. We’re also launching fulfillment of raw meats out of the commissary kitchen.”
