Best Place for a Spontaneous Gathering at Night

Blind Tiger

D. Ross Cameron

Despite all the new restaurants in Oakland, it can still be surprisingly difficult to find a kitchen open past 9:30 p.m., let alone one that would be happy to serve you and all your friends. That's why Blind Tiger—a subterranean, Asian-inspired tapas restaurant and bar in the Koreatown-Northgate neighborhood—is such a gift. Its sprawling dinner menu is available until 11 p.m., and the still-generous late-night menu goes until 1 a.m. every day. There are fancy craft cocktails and a decent selection of beers, plus ample picnic tables to accommodate any spontaneous (or planned) gatherings. With festive paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling and movies projecting on the walls, Blind Tiger feels like a party where everyone is invited.
