Best Weekend Brunch Without the Wait

Doña Tomás

Lori Eanes

Brunch has almost become a sport in the East Bay. There are crowds. There are names shouted like lottery winners above the din of hungover conversation. But on the occasions when you have not been so organized as to make reservations a week ahead of time and do not have three hours to kill, there is Doña Tomás. Despite the smooth coffee, the fluffy tortillas, the perfectly cooked eggs, and the tender steak, it remains remarkably easy to snag a table at this Temescal restaurant on a Saturday morning. The servers are friendly and attentive, and the dishes are brought out almost as quickly as you ordered them. When the weather is warm, dining on the back patio feels like a mini vacation unto itself. Don’t forget the chips and guacamole.
