Oakland's popular Bierhaus is opening a new location this month in downtown Walnut Creek.
The Walnut Creek location — at 1360 Locust St. — will be open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., with happy hours daily from 3 to 6 p.m. Its menu will be similar to that of the Oakland location, featuring German-inspired seasonal fare along with over 25 beers and ciders on draft as well as an extensive wine list.
The restaurant prides itself on dog-friendliness. Its floppy-eared mascot is owner Mike Finley's appropriately named pup, Scout.
Prior to its mid-November grand opening, fans were invited to support the restaurant's nonprofit partner, Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation — which rescues dogs and cats that have run out of time at public shelters, and also helms programs aimed at strengthening the animal-human bonds for people experiencing disadvantages.
Bierhaus opened in Temescal about a year ago, having left its original Mountain View location — which opened in 2014 — following a dispute between its owner and a landlord. Items on the Oakland location's menu include spaetzle, sauerkraut, Liptauer cheese dip, currywurst, hagerschnitzel, and flammkuchen.
Unique to the Walnut Creek location is a bottle shop.
