Some East Bay favorites are participating in this year's Eat Drink SF food-and-drink extravaganza.
Set for August 24 at The Midway in San Francisco's Dogpatch district, the event — founded in 2009 by the Golden Gate Restaurant Association and presented by JetBlue — comprises two Grand Tasting sessions where dozens of top local chefs and mixologists will share their wares, amidst a luscious array of activations, themed regions, demonstrations, and more — including a fully 3D-printed bar. Tickets are available here.
Entire rooms will allow guests to enjoy interactive, instagrammable arrays of caviar, presented by Concord-based Tsar Nicoulai — as well as other delectables such as Napa-based RE:THINK ice cream and sake organized by Ozumo, whose Uptown Oakland restaurant is much missed.
Chefs are known to reach the outer limits of artisanry and creativity during the tasting sessions, as can be seen in the accompanying photos snapped at past Eat Drink SF events.
Lasting from 12 noon to 3:30 p.m., the Saturday Afternoon Grand Tasting will showcase bites from Emeryville-based Trader Vic's and over 25 more restaurants — including August (1) Five, China Live, ALX, Charlie Palmer Steak Napa, Credo, Trader Vic’s, Thirstybear Brewing, E&O Kitchen and Bar, Dirty Habit, and others. During this tasting, Berkeley-based Gioia Pizzeria — which recently opened a new location in San Francisco's Hayes Valley — will sling its popular New York-inspired pies.
Also during this tasting, the event's VIP section features bites from Ozumo, Valrhona Chocolate, Anton SV Pâtisserie, Fairmont San Francisco, Caviar Fix, and more.
Lasting from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., the Saturday Evening Grand Tasting features bites from Ayala, M.Y. China, Cockscomb, Absinthe Brasserie & Bar, Barcino, Black Cat, Hazel Southern Bar & Kitchen, Serpentine, Le Colonial, Mission Bowling Club, San Francisco’s Hometown Creamery, and more. During this tasting, guests can enjoy elevated New American fare in a special Backyard Bites and Bourbon area.
Also during this tasting, guests with VIP tickets can sample bites from Tsar Nicolai Caviar, Pabu, Perbacco, Alexander’s Steakhouse, and more.
James Beard Award-winning celebrity chef Charlie Palmer, along with Top Chef alumnus Rogelio García and Bacchus Management Group pastry chef Janina O'Leary, will lead a series of cooking demos, while Wines of Provence will offer educated rosé pairings.
Bulleit Frontier Whiskey is staging its latest cultural Frontier Works project, the Bulleit 3D Printed Frontier Lounge — where guests can be amazed by a 3D printed bar and some of the world’s first 3D-printed cocktails.
Bulleit is a sponsor for this year’s event, along with fellow sponsors Don Julio, Fernet, Guinness, iheart Media, JetBlue, Ketel One, Lillet, Maker’s Mark, Oban, Tailisker, Wines of Germany and Bordeaux, and Wine Spectator.
Through a partnership with Recology and the San Francisco Conservation Corp, the GGRA has set a goal of making this a zero-waste event. All paper products will be recycled; disposable utensils will be made of corn resin and will be composted. The GGRA encourages attendees to use public transportation and/or to carpool, walk, and bicycle to the event.
