Pastries created in Oakland, coffee roasted in Emeryville, and teas formulated in Berkeley are being served at La Bande, the brand-new café and market that opened across the bay today at the San Francisco Proper Hotel.
Located in a nearly-century-old Market Street flatiron building and calling itself a "new-fashioned canteen," tall-windowed La Bande offers indoor and outdoor seating, including a heated patio. It joins Proper's all-day restaurant, Villon, as well as the hotel's rooftop lounge, Charmaine's.
The cafe's menu includes breakfast burritos, artisanal sandwiches, fruit-topped house-made yogurts, and more. Fresh pastries such as croissants, kouign amann, chocolate crumbcake, and more come from Oakland's Firebrand. Black, green, and herbal teas come from Berkeley-based Leaves and Flowers.
