East Bay-Made Beer, Meat, and More Win Good Food Awards

Winners included Drake's Brewing Co., Michael's Chocolates, Yumé Boshi, and many more.

The winners of this year's Good Food Awards have just been announced, and several East Bay makers are among them.

Now in its eighth year, the Good Food Awards hails crafters in fifteen categories — beer, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, cider, coffee, confections, elixirs, fish, honey, oils, pantry, pickles, preserves, and spirits — "who demonstrate a commitment to creating tasty, authentic, and responsible products and in doing so, better the nation’s food system," as the GFA announcement explained.

The 199 winners were drawn from over 2,000 entrants in a blind tasting with 277 judges.

Among this year's winners are San Leandro-based Drake's Brewing Company in the beer category; Berkeley-based Fra' Mani Handcrafted Foods for its Salametto Piccante and Soppressata, in the charcuterie category; Richmond-based Far West Cider Co. for its You've Guava Be Kidding Me and Proper Dy in the cider category; Oakland-based Michael's Chocolates for its Lemon Burst Bonbons in the confections category; Berkeley-based Yumé Boshi for its Ume Plum Syrup in the elixirs category and for its Ume Plum Jam in the preserves category.
