Oakland's mac-and-cheese palace, Homeroom restaurant, is seizing the concept of National Mac and Cheese Day and expanding those celebrations for a full week.
From July 8 through July 14, the restaurant will roll out two of its all-time favorite flavors, Hawaiian Mac and Pizza Mac. It will also have a photo booth, mac and cheese temporary tattoos, and a prize wheel. Fans need not even show up in the flesh: Check out Homeroom' on Instagram (@homeroom510) and elsewhere on social media for mac memes, mac footage, and a chance to win a year's supply of mac.
On July 13 and July 14 — the latter is officially National Mac and Cheese Day — Homeroom will feature live music, games, macaroni art, giveaways, face painting, and more. Community members are welcome to enter their own macaroni creations for a panel of judges to assess in Homeroom's mac-and-cheese recipe contest.
The winning dish will be featured as a special on Homeroom’s menu and its creator will receive a $250 gift card.
Homeroom opened in 2011, after former lawyer — and later co-founder — Erin Wade finished work one rainy night and couldn't find any local restaurants serving mac and cheese as scrumptious as the kind her dad used to make.
