Ryan Farr, owner of 4505 Burgers & BBQ, is teaming up with Aaron Franklin of Austin, TX's Franklin Barbecue on Oct. 13 to host Hot Luck Road Trip: Oakland (presented by YETI). It's the first-ever Bay Area pop-up for this trendy food fest, to which Farr and Franklin have invited some of their favorite East Bay chefs and a special guest from South Carolina: Rodney Scott of Scott's BBQ.

"I've always said BBQ is about bringing people together," Farr said.

"I'm thrilled that, with our bigger space in Oakland, we can host events with people from all walks of life who are united by their shared love of food and community."

This flame-fueled, open-air cooking festival will feature three pitmasters who are redefining America’s possibly greatest culinary tradition: Franklin, known for his Texas-style barbecue and slices of perfectly smoked brisket; whole-hog pitmaster Scott, who will take over 4505’s smoker for the day and show off his South Carolina stylings; and, on their own home territory, the 4505 Burgers & BBQ team — debuting their new, custom wood-fired grill from famed grill and smoker fabricator, Mill Scale Metalworks.

They'll use the new grill to whip up 4505’s BBQ favorites and tasty new bites made exclusively for Hot Luck Road Trip: Oakland.

Local participants will include James Beard Award semi-finalist Reem Assil (of Reem’s California); Food & Wine’s 2016 Best New Chef, Ravi Kapur (of Liholiho Yacht Club); and Chris Kronner (of Henry’s — and also the author of A Burger to Believe In). Drinks will include suds from local Oakland craft breweries and a curated selection of wineries.
