Parents can select quality, organic cotton print clothing for kids made by Mightly, a brand launched by three momtrepreneurs.

Launched in July 2019 in Oakland, Mightly makes high-quality kids’ play clothes in earth-friendly organic cotton. Inspired by their children, the three longtime friends who run the company saw an untapped market for affordable, durable basics their kids could wear every day — leggings with no-show reinforced knees ($12.50), T-shirts with flat seams and itch-free labels ($11.50), dresses with pockets to hold treasures ($15), and soft-to-the-touch unisex pajamas ($26).

Mightly is unique among clothing companies in that its supply chain is transparent. The company’s organic cotton is grown in India by farmers who are part of the nonprofit Chetna Organic Farmers Association, which works with smallholder farmer families.

The clothing is manufactured at the Rajlakshmi cotton mill, which is certified for fair labor practices and adheres to stringent environmental standards.

The company’s chief spokesperson is Chief Kid Officer Eloise, the star of its videos who named the company. Eloise is the daughter of CEO Tierra Forte, a longtime fashion industry professional who founded a premium organic denim line and worked as the VP of products for Pact Apparel, an organic, fair-trade brand. The Oakland native attended elementary school at Park Day School with COO Anya Emerson, an attorney in charge of compliance and finance who also works with disadvantaged children and their families, and the husband of creative director Barrie Brouse, formerly of kids’ clothing brand Sweet Potatoes who manages product design. Artist Lili Arnold rounds out the team with her whimsical block print designs and graphics that adorn the clothing.

The Mightly team is working toward establishing its wholesale business so that the children’s basics can be sold at brick-and-mortar shops and not just online. Forte sees kids’ bedding in their signature organic cotton prints as another growth area, an extension of sleep-related products like the best-selling PJs. For now, the three founders are happy to have all of their children, which number five under the age of 10, involved in the company and learning about entrepreneurship along the way.

Mightly can be found online at Mightly.com and on Amazon. Sizes range from 2T to 12.
