Memories of Best and Worst Gifts
What’s the best or worst present you ever received?
Luan Stauss: The best present I ever received was tickets for a tour of the Gamble House in Pasadena. Someone who knew how much I love Arts and Crafts architecture gave it to me. The thoughtful gift was a premier example of paying attention to what people in your life care about and really appreciate. The bonus is that it was my mother-in-law who gave me the gift.
Taylor Page: My favorite Christmas present I can remember receiving is my own pair of skis when I was about 14 or 15. My dad is from Canada, and I grew up in an avid skiing family, so when I finally received my own pair, I was so excited to feel older, more responsible, and like a true skier. The worst Christmas present I think I ever received was probably a gift card to a video game store. This clearly came from someone who doesn’t know me very well, because anyone that does knows that I am not a video game player.
Eva Camille Haese: My best holiday present was the iPod, the very first year it came out. I was in eighth grade at the time, so my world was relatively small. I had no car, no job, no boyfriends, etc. At that point in my life, I was discovering music for the first time, so having the power to download music in all different forms, and having it mobile and available to share with others was a totally life-changing thing for me. I actually still have it somewhere, because it contains all sorts of sentimental music from the time I was in middle school to college before it sadly passed away.
Eve Sheehan: I got a puppy in a cardboard box with hearts all over the box. My birthday is on Valentine’s Day, so the hearts related to that—and the loving dog. She was the best dog I ever had, but I don’t encourage giving pets, unless you know that the receiver can and will take good care of the pet.
Carlie Nargossias: Believe it or not, I’ll have to say that the best gift I got surprised with was a camo army jacket. Without even asking me, my friend guessed that I would a love a camo jacket, and she was right. I appreciated that she knew taste and put thought into the gift.
Dawn Hall: The best present I’ve been given—and still love to be given—is a spa certificate with baby-sitting included. That’s a no-brainer.
