A few years ago in Alameda, I strolled the length of Park Street on a summer afternoon and then did the same on Webster Street the next day. I jotted down impressions on the vibe of both thoroughfares and took copious notes about what the streetscapes looked like and who walked and shopped and hung out on the main drags.
Design rules our lives, especially the furniture and décor that fill our homes. Imagine if you could outfit your surroundings with one-of-a-kind designs that felt more like works of art, replacing a scratched up rocking chair with a sleek, simple stool or whimsical bench. Wouldn’t daily life be just a little better?
For this year’s portrait of outstanding members of the class of 2014, the graduating seniors get to have their say. We also asked them to send in their selfies (that’s mine accompanying this column, incidentally) to give them an additional chance at visual self-expression.
