The California Shakespeare Theater’s O Brave New World gala on March 12 raised $472,000, money that the outdoor theater group will use for community and classroom work. City View at Metreon was the dramatic setting for the 21st annual gala, chaired by Maureen Knight. More than 250 attendees were on hand to welcome the new artistic director, Eric Ting, and support Cal Shakes causes with lively bidding. Aurora Theatre held its annual fundraiser, Aurora Borealis, at the historic Oakland Rotunda to celebrate 24 years of rousing theater. Patrons could bid on a week in Maui, winter in New York with Hamilton, and a week in London. Fashionistas and firebugs fused fashion and fire at the Alchemy & Ardor Hot Couture show at The Crucible on Feb. 12 and 13. Fashion designers and industrial artists collaborated for hot haute couture looks on three runways at the fire arts nonprofit’s headquarters, delighting and surprising crowds with their fiery fingers, shooting flames, and spinning accessories that offered bare bellies, strapless gowns, and arresting masks. www.TheCrucible.org.
