Eat Real Festival
The second edition of the Eat Real Festival, on Aug. 27–29 in Jack London Square, was a gourmand’s delight. Described by organizers as state fair, street food festival and block party combined into one giant package to celebrate good food, the event was packed with folks interested in inexpensive, tasty food and delicious local wine and beer. Donkey & Goat Fete
Donkey & Goat winery hosted a fall fete on Sept. 11 to celebrate fall releases. The festive event, which drew more than 250 people, featured numerous blends and varietals including the winery’s first Pinot. Mind Your Tongue provided the food, which included a heritage hog from Bodega’s famed Gleason Ranch. The music was by the Michael LaMacchia 3io! and featured a special blend of Brazilian jazz.
All That Jazz & Sushi
La Clinica de La Raza hosted its annual benefit, All That Jazz (& Sushi), at Yoshi’s on Sept. 25. More than 280 guests attended the event, which included an open bar, gourmet food and a live auction. Musical entertainment was provided by Geri Allen, an internationally celebrated, award-winning jazz pianist and composer. Proceeds from the evening will go towards the HIV services program. www.laclinica.org
Women of Taste 2010
Girls Inc. of Alameda County presented its 19th Annual Women of Taste on Sept. 25 at Kaiser’s Rooftop Garden. Around 1,300 guests meandered throughout the garden, sampling gourmet fare from more than 50 chefs and beverage producers. Guests could participate in a raffle and a silent auction, which included unique pieces by local artists. Music was provided by The Montclair Women’s Big Band. Proceeds from the event will go towards supplies and equipment to help keep “inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.” www.girlsinc-alameda.org
AASK Harvest Crush
Adopt A Special Kid, the Oakland-based special-needs adoption agency and nonprofit, its board of directors and JC Cellars hosted a fun night of hors d’oeuvres, prizes, wine tastings, winery tours and silent and live auctions at the Jack London Square winery on Sept. 24. Harvest Crush Supporters could sample select and premium JC Cellars wines at the party, which was AASK’s fourth annual board of directors wine benefit. www.ask.org
Oakland Rotary Taste of California
Rotary Club of Oakland moved its 28th annual wine, food and beer festival to the three-acre Kaiser Rooftop Garden with a rooftop view of Lake Merritt. The Sept. 19 event was a little rainy and blustery, but guests at A Taste of California — Up on the Roof didn’t mind because the wine and microbrew flowed steadily and the savory and sweet treats were plentiful. Funds raised go toward scholarships, day camp activity and books for Oakland third-graders. www.oakland-rotary.org
