There are lines out the door of this Rockridge taqueria for good reason—great tasting Mexican food that demands repeat visits. Cactus, in the heart of Rockridge right next to the BART station, uses fresh, top-grade ingredients including Niman Ranch beef, chicken from Fulton Valley Farms, and different choices of beans, rice, salsa and tortillas. Burritos come in regular and mejor (large) sizes or the ingredients can be served on a plate with tortillas on the side. Be sure to try the carne asada and the carnitas—both are packed with flavor. The crispy tacos are also worth a visit, stuffed with filling, lettuce, cheese, salsa, guacamole and deep-fried to a golden brown. After you’ve ordered, it’s time for the best part; head to the salsa bar and choose from six varieties including tomatillo chipotle, cabbage, boracha, habañero, verde or de piña. Ole!
