2001 Broadway
Oakland, CA

In the same building as Oakland’s majestic Paramount Theatre, this bright and airy cafe offers bocadillos (sandwiches) you won’t find anywhere else downtown. Go for the jamon serrano or sliced chorizo de Pamploma, wonderful cured meats that pair deliciously with a slice of manchego or tronchon cheese. If you’re not afraid of garlic, try the boquerones, vinegary anchovies marinated in garlic and olive oil. Fare includes decent tortilla Española and pipirrana salad (cucumber, green bell peppers, onions and tomatoes) and fine soups of the day. Breakfast and lunch Mon.–Fri., lunch Sat.
