This Thai restaurant is named after the longest white-sand beach in Thailand, and indeed the food seems to invoke a holiday vacation atmosphere. An institution since 1985, Cha-Am offers fast, if sometimes spotty, service; good, fresh food and great prices. If you want to order the Cha-Am fresh rolls to start, arrive early in the evening, as the kitchen makes only seven a night, and when they are gone, they are gone. On our visit, entrees included the ga-pao seafood, a delicious mixture of sautéed prawns and scallops with fresh chili and garlic sauce, Thai sweet basil, onion and chopped green beans, and the popular Cha-Am noodles, steamed-rice noodles tossed with sautéed chopped chicken breast, yellow onion, baby corn, sweet basil, chopped green beans, peas and carrots topped with a spicy chili-garlic sauce. Everything was very fresh and tasty, but to really get the tropical feel, be sure to top the meal off with a coconut juice served in a real coconut adorned with a cocktail umbrella. Lunch Mon.–Sat., dinner daily.
