A former doughnut shop near San Antonio Park, Champa Garden has become a neat, family-run restaurant and instant neighborhood hit. The decor—paneled wainscoting aside glass-topped tables with well-appointed condiment trays and pretty tablecloths—won’t exactly bowl you over, but the huge selection of dishes and inexpensive prices just might. We were in a salad mood, sampling spicy Thai-style papaya salad and Lao-style larb, a minced-beef salad, and were also mistakenly delivered a fried rice ball salad, the highlight of our meal: fried rice, preserved pork and green onions you wrap up in wads of lettuce with electric mint and tangy cilantro. Navarro Vineyard Chardonnay (sadly, the Riesling was unavailable) and a veggie claypot of noodles, vegetables and chili peppers rounded out our eastern Asian experience, one well worth re-encountering. Lunch and dinner daily.
