Distinct Jalisco-Puebla flavors meld at this decidedly tourist-oriented upscale restaurant in Jack London Square, the third in a small family-owned chain with chef Lito Saldaña at the helm. Hip orange, yellow and red walls, brightly painted Mexican animal carvings and white tablecloths erase all hints of what came before, an unmemorable Pizzeria Uno. Our enthusiastic waitress, Jennifer, was full of recommendations, and Miz Jen didn’t steer us wrong: tres ceviches, an appetizer-sized trio of shrimp, ahi tuna and vegetarian concoctions, the latter of which was fiery-hot; ensalada de tomate, a stacked Mexican version of a Caprese salad with grilled ingredients served at room temperature; and the signature dish, chiles en nogada, a poblano chile packed with shredded chicken, dried fruit and toasted almonds, blanketed with a smooth pecan sauce and garnished with bright pomegranate seeds. Viva, Mexico. Breakfast Mon.–Fri., brunch Sat.-Sun., lunch and dinner daily.
