The casual JLS neighborhood vegan and vegetarian wine bar and cafe offers something new: Sunday brunch. Mmm. Big Encuentro fans since the 2009 opening, we happily stopped in on a recent Sunday and scored a sunny corner spot, perfect for sipping sparkling lemonade and fresh-squeezed, pulp-filled OJ. Brunch items change, so this week’s delights might be a tofu scramble, tempting coffeecake, or vegan biscuits, tempeh sausage, and creamy country gravy, while next week’s menu might tout sticky vegan cinnamon rolls, an eggless frittata, granola chock full of seeds, nuts, and dried fruit, or a simple toasted baguette and jam. Whatever comes to the table morning, noon, or night is good, and Encuentro continues to shine as a gathering and encountering place particularly suited for vegetarians and vegans.
