Cocktails, wine and beer are the admitted favored sons of this tavern that harks back to speakeasy days, although this trend-setting, mahogony-and-red hued newcomer puts a priority on organic produce, fresh-squeezed juices and artisan syrups and gums for the cocktails and takes great pains in the selection of its eclectic, high-quality wine, beer and spirits labels. The cuisine is described as “new American,” which translates into small plates, side dishes, salads and hearty entrees such as fried cornish hen or rib-eye steak and some sandwiches. We’re suckers for small plates, so we went that direction: The roasted eggplant, zuchinni and bell peppers with garlic sour cream sauce was truly delcious, as were the “firecracker shrimp” and “social skin fries” (flavor-dusted house-made potato chips). Your taste buds will rightly applaud any mashed or roasted dish on the menu. The overall experience is like going to a party in somebody’s house with a different clique behind every half-open pocket door. Nab a low-slung chair and table and settle in with a Clover Club and an Old Fashioned for a delicious evening. Dinner daily, weekend brunch. (Reservations 8 or more)
