Essential Information
2306 Central Ave.
Alameda, CA
510-522-5552
No surprise here: Kabobs, kabobs, kabobs — charbroiled chicken, beef and vegetables — dominate the menu at this theater district newcomer. Order them on skewers, in a salad or in a wrap. Coupled with naan and basmati rice or fries, they make a hearty meal. Like gyros? You can get an open-faced lamb-beef combo, too, plus challaw, chicken qurma and shore-nakhot. This order-at-the-counter eatery melds flavors from the Mediterranean with those from Afghanistan and India, turning out many dishes with huge hunks of tandoori naan and delicious dipping sauce. Dash in here before or after a show at the Alameda Theatre. The service is quick, daily specials (such as the Persian chicken burger with fries and a drink for $7.95) are a good meal deal and it’s all pretty tasty. The patio is a nice touch during good weather. Bet the kids will love it. No alcohol for the grownups, though. Lunch and dinner daily.
