Probably like many Metro Montclair customers, we fell upon the place (a former coffeehouse), and, boy, are we ever glad we did, because this small plates-salads-sandwiches emporium is great. Sister restaurant to Michelin Guide Recommended Metro Lafayette, Metro Montclair is a delicious addition to the boulevard. We couldn’t resist all the “snacks” — root vegetable chips with spicy aioli, apple slaw with Napa cabbage and an ample portion of marinated olives — and we L-O-V-E-D the crispy Brussels sprouts and mussels meunière. Good bread started things off, and the grilled bread aside the mussels proved great for sopping up the savory white wine, shallots-laden broth. The lighting might be a little harsh for the deep red interior, the walls might seem too empty and the flat screen TV might be a little distracting, but don’t let any of that put you off because the seasonal-changing repast that lands on your plate is really good. Serves lunch and dinner Tue.–Sat.
