Tamarindo Antojeria Mexicana expands to add a chic tequila bar and lounge where the stars of the show are, not surprisingly, tequila, mezcal and sotol. Agave-loving patrons can order one-ounce pours or flights of high-quality, esoteric tequila or sip on interesting tequila-based cocktails, including five variations of the margarita with a chile salt rim recommended on three of them. The house marg and margarita de Tamarindo were stellar creations. On the food front, it’s antojitos, the small-plate appetizers of the adjoining restaurant plus soups, salads and a few full dinners. The antojitos are tiny works of art, from the gauc and chips to the tacos and tamales. The bite-sized beauties add the perfect accent to stylish Miel where the tin-pressed ceiling, exposed brick wall, hacienda-ish bar, low-slung sofas, wooden benches and flat screen TV (with an old Mexican Western movie running) bring in the beautiful people of Oakland.
