Located in the Pacific Renaissance Plaza in the heart of Chinatown, Restaurant Peony is famous for its dim sum, but its other Hong Kong–style Cantonese dishes are also very good. This large, banquet-style restaurant features such exotic fare as shark fin soup, turtle and frog, but for less adventurous Western palates, there are plenty of tasty selections, such as succulent and crispy barbecue pork and tangy-and-sweet spicy chicken with greens. But Peony is famous for its dim sum lunch, so be quick and aggressive as those carts come by and reach for delicious dumplings with fillings such as vegetable, shrimp and spinach or chicken and rice—they are some of the best in the East Bay. Be prepared to wait to be seated at lunch, even on weekdays. Lunch and dinner daily (dim sum at lunch only)
