Ruen Pair
Categories:
Essential Information
1045 San Pablo Ave
Albany, CA
510-528-2375
The name means “house on the river,” and indeed a visit to Ruen Pair can feel like a visit to your neighbor’s house (if you lived in Thailand). This cozy and attractive family-owned and -operated restaurant is full of reminders of Thai culture including walls full of imported art, each piece with its own story. As a result, Ruen Pair may be the most authentic Thai restaurant in the Bay Area, so expect all the heat that comes along with the imported flavors. Heed the warnings from your waitress seriously; don’t order “hot” unless you are a recent transplant from Thailand, and we are not kidding here. The Tom Yum soup is an excellent starter, presented in a circular dish with a flaming-hot center for warming. Spicy curries, seafood, sautéed dishes, noodle and rice plates are worthwhile main dishes. Don’t go above the “medium” line and you’ll enjoy some of the best tasting northern Thai food in the area. Lunch and dinner daily.
