Authentic, inexpensive repast is what comes out of the kitchen here, an informal joint on the edge of Chinatown that’s been a couple of restaurants with May Hong being perhaps the most memorable. The tidy, no-nonsense surroundings are a bit too bright, but the friendly, efficient service at this family-run establishment makes up for that slight detraction. Come here with a big group and order up a storm — pho, papaya shrimp mango salad, grilled pork and egg roll over vermicelli, salt and pepper prawns and cubed beef. That final dish — the cubed beef — was salty, tangy and gobbled up before the other dishes disappeared, but in the end, all the plates were clean, a definite sign of a good meal. Serves lunch and dinner daily.
