Essential Information

1303 Park St.
Alameda, CA

510-521-2400

In a word: Wow! By day, this little retro-feeling Park Street eatery caters to the high school horde (which Park Street restaurant near here doesn’t?!), pimping pizza specials mostly. By night, Scolari’s becomes the late-night takeout king of Park Street, serving until the wee hours. The kids are onto something, so queue up right along with them. The fare includes simple pizza, super-tasty stromboli, delicious sandwiches, interesting daily specials and really great burgers and the like, and customers can take it next door to Lucky 13, eat it outside perched on the portable furniture or dig into it inside while bellied up to the stainless steel table or butcher block counter. The cheeseburgers are on the softest buns ever, and they are greasy, falling-apart, five-napkin affairs with crisp, waffle-cut pickles, melted cheese, cold lettuce and well-chosen tomatoes dressed up with a dollop of sweet Thousand Island-like sauce. Fries come in their own brown paper bag, but you’d best order a half order or share a full one with a bud. Fried hot dogs, hush puppies, buffalo fries, lemonade, Boylan’s Creamy Red Birch Ale are also available. See for yourself. It’s that kind of place. Open for lunch and dinner daily.
