Essential Information

Oakland, CA

This popular sushi joint stands head and shoulders above many, and it’s a fine option to add into your sushi rotation, though it probably won’t move into the No. 1 spot. The tuna sashimi is excellent, and the quality of the yellowtail and salmon sashimi are equally high caliber. The generously appointed special sushi rolls are sights to behold, and the poki tuna roll rocks with spiciness. There’s a sake sampler of five varieties for $10 that’s definitely worth trying. Service runs on the slow side. When there’s a line at the door, put your name on the board when you enter. The Drunken Fish is a sister restaurant to Koryo Sushi (4390 Telegraph Ave., 510-594-0661) and Mioyzen (1147 40th St., Emeryville, 510-923-0311). Lunch Mon.–Fri., dinner nightly.
