Essential Information

1531 Webster St.
Alameda, CA

A new Vietnamese restaurant (at least the third in this location) lands on Webster Street, delivering an extensive menu with more than 100 dishes, from pho and vermicelli to spring rolls and pork buns. After chomping down cilantro-minty spring rolls, we ate family-style, selecting salt-and-pepper prawns (de-shelled before the deep frying for local sensibilities), and a chicken curry-coconutty soup full of carrots, potatoes and thighs (which will likely be replaced henceforth with white meat). The attentive owner smartly observed what customers devoured and picked at, taking cues to adjust his menu and encouraging feedback. Gurgling fountains and mirrors add to the well-lit, tidy restaurant’s ambience. A nice West End addition. (The restaurant is related to Tu Tai 1, 13898 Doolittle Drive, 510-351-8899, San Leandro.) Lunch and dinner daily.
