Essential Information
3900 San Pablo Ave. (at Yerba Buena Ave.)
Emeryville, CA
510-597-1303
In-the-know Emeryville-ites find plain-and-simple Wally’s Café easily enough — it’s a walk straight through the Bank Club. Likewise, you can enter the Bank Club through Wally’s, and folks can take their chow into the bar to drink. Wally’s is a little diner with a horseshoe-shaped counter equipped with comfy swiveling wooden chairs, putting you face-to-face with the kind proprietor who can cook, take orders and ring you up without missing a beat. We had a bird’s-eye view of the fridge, decorated with a WALL-E poster, and could read the neatly folded daily newspaper stashed at the corner of the bar. Complimentary lentil soup starts the meal, and an on-the-house piece of baklava ends it. Our generous gyros and falafel wraps were fresh, hot, delicious and meals unto themselves, and the kebabs we saw took our breath away they looked so appetizing. We snacked on ice-cold tabbouleh and just-made dolmas that were steaming from a quick kiss of the grill. Stop here for take-home food when you just don’t want to cook. Open for lunch and dinner Mon.–Sat.
