This venture of restaurateurs Rich and Rebekah Wood (formerly of Frascati in San Francisco) combines easy neighborhood charm with upscale buzz. Chef Max DiMare’s simple, robust and expertly prepared food is the heart of the restaurant, from dazzling starters (pork belly confit, Ahi tartare, arugula and asparagus salad, creamy roasted-tomato soup) through excellent lunch sandwiches (Niman Ranch burger, bacon/blue cheese/avocado) and extraordinary entrees (sautéed halibut, seared duck breast). Adequate desserts are eclipsed by libations from the bar, including a reasonable wine list for aficionados and handcrafted classic cocktails that attract a crowd of tipplers, even at lunchtime. Lunch Mon.–Sat., dinner nightly.
