Xolo – La Taqueria de Doña Tomás 2

Categories:
  • Mexican

Essential Information

1916 Telegraph Ave.
Oakland, CA

510-986-0151

The Doña Tomás-Flora gang rolls out a turquoise-hued Tacubaya-esque taqueria in Uptown where street-sized tacos and lean burritos rule along side especiales such as bacon-wrapped hot dogs, ensalada, posole, birria and churros. Like its sibling on Berkeley's Fourth Street, Xolo is an order-at-the-counter kind of place that incorporates local, organic and sustainably sourced meats, seafood and dairy in its products. The flavor combinations soar — especially in the vampiro, hongos and chile verde tacos — but there may be a little sticker shock for taco truck aficionados accustomed to really cheap street fare or for burrito buffs used to a football-sized Ramirez & Sons creation. There's a cool Mexican-wrestler-meets-carved-animal-figure vibe going here, which is to say major eclectic with a cheery edge. Agua fresca, horchata, Mexican Coca Cola, Mexican hot chocolate and coffee and espresso drinks plus a nice selection of Mexican beer and single choices for red, white and rosé wine round out the beverage options. A charming addition to Uptown. Serves lunch Mon.–Sat.
