Block Party FanThanks for the nice piece about the delightful two-block College Avenue shopping district in Berkeley’s Elmwood area [“Shop, Eat and Play in Elmwood,” November 2007]. It’s been a great place to stroll and hang out for many, many years.
I have one addition to the list: the Global Exchange shop at the corner of College and Russell (open every day), which supports the work of that wonderful fair-trade organization with an amazing array of charming handmade items from all over the world; shoppers can feel good about being consumers!
Thanks for your always interesting, always informative magazine.

Food NewsI was reading your magazine at the checkout at Whole Foods on Lake Merritt and saw no real news coverage of the East Bay’s bursting restaurant scene. I still have to read The Inside Scoop in the San Francisco Chronicle to find out what is going on in Oakland. (Like today’s story on Mono Restaurant.) I’d rather buy Oakland Magazine than read the SF Chron. Any chance you can improve the coverage? Seems like restaurants would love to tell you what’s coming.
I also read stuff in OakBook that tells me more than your mag. Missed opportunity? I would subscribe if you would cover it more intensely with some enthusiasm and local edge. So much going on, but you’d never know it reading your mag. It’s not really seeing the explosion of what is going on. All well and good to cover real estate and MDs, but that’s only a small part of the picture.
