By virtue of its elegant but homey interior and its eclectic, elevated menus of American and pub-grub classics, Duchess succeeds at being something for everyone. It’s a bar with fine wines and beers, especially creative cocktails, and tantalizing snacks; a brunch spot with excellent egg dishes, sandwiches, salads, and a cheeseburger on a house-made bun; and a design-conscious dinner restaurant with original takes on seafood, meat, and vegetarian standards. You can start with a Bitter and Twisted (mezcal, white vermouth, Salers aperitif) and such bites as chips and guacamole, buffalo wings, Brussels sprouts, and padron peppers, and then move on to a Caesar salad, a standard-setting grilled pork chop, chicken and waffles, seared salmon, or farro risotto. During “Brunchess” hours, don’t miss the best-ever, shredded and chunky corned beef hash, the morning tacos, or co-owner Caroline Conner’s pastries and savory tarts. Open for brunch and dinner Tue.-Sun.
