This place specializes in donuts—big, old-fashioned, fluffy, nongreasy ones in tasty varieties, from simple plain glazed and iced chocolate to blueberry and maple bacon and crazy points in between. They are made fresh daily, as are tasty fritters and muffins. Breakfast is big at Homeskillet, with classic eggs, meat, hashbrowns, and toast leading the offerings, which also include scrambles, hash, burritos, Benedicts, omelets, hotcakes, and French toast. For the later crowds, sandwiches, burgers—the Hot Chip is odd but good with house-fried crisscrossed potato chips and spicy chipotle sauce—and six kinds of ooey-gooey baked mac and cheese are on tap to beat back hunger. The neat interior is slightly retro with subdued peach-hued walls and funny sayings positioned around strategically. Always plenty of coffee, too—which is good because coffee goes so well with all those donuts. Serves breakfast and lunch daily and donuts and coffee only from 3-6 p.m.
