The first Japanese restaurant to open in Alameda, Kamakura is best known for its proprietor, Akiko “Faith” Yamato. Her business philosophy is okyakusama wa kamisama desu, which is Japanese for “customers are God.” The sushi chefs are trained in Japan, and the result is traditional Japanese cuisine, with glistening fresh sashimi and sushi prepared at the sushi bar. But Kamakura chefs also prepare today’s popular “big” rolls with very non-traditional ingredients. Lunch Mon.-Sat.; dinner daily.
