Supporters of the North Oakland Community Charter School turned out in force March 20 to Uptown Body & Fender to raise funds for the Oakland public elementary school. Cal Shakes La Dolce Vita
It was much ado about everything at California Shakespeare Theater’s 15th annual gala, La Dolce Vita, at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco on March 20. The event, which was attended by more than 480 people, celebrated the 10th anniversary of artistic director Jonathan Moscone. The evening’s activities included silent and live auctions, a cocktail reception and dinner. Spirits and wine were donated by Stockholm Krystal Vodka and Pine Ridge Vineyards, respectively, and after dinner, guests could dance to the cool tunes of the CoolTones. calshakes.org
FACE Gala & Auction 2010
The Cathedral of Christ the Light in downtown Oakland was the site of the 27th Annual FACE Gala and Auction on March 20. FACE, an acronym for Family Aid – Catholic Education, provides tuition assistance to enable ethnically diverse children of low-income families to receive a Catholic education. More than 500 guests attended the event, which included silent and live auctions, a raffle and dinner. Guests could also make donations toward tuition. Taste of the East Bay 2010
It was foodie heaven at the Berkeley City Club on April 17 for the Alta Bates Summit Foundation second annual Taste of the East Bay soiree. More than 40 restaurants, wineries and breweries provided samples of their culinary offerings for a standing-room only crowd. Alameda County Womens Hall of Fame
More than 500 people converged on the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension on April 17 to attend the 17th annual Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame luncheon and awards ceremony. The event, hosted by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors and the Alameda County Commission on the Status of Women, honored 11 inductees excelling in areas ranging from business and professional services to justice and nontraditional fields. Five Star Night 2010
Alameda County’s Meals on Wheels programs got a big boost, thanks to the 23rd annual Five Star Night on April 23 at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension. A champagne and fine wine reception preceded a four-course gala dinner created by 15 Bay Area notable chefs. The star-studded gala had Narsai David at the helm as emcee and auctioneer. More than 300 participants attended, and their efforts plus a silent and live auction generateed $125,000 for healthy meals for homebound seniors throughout the county. feedingseniors.org
Oakland Museum Reopening
It was a beautiful weekend as thousands of people flocked to the Oakland Museum of California to participate in a two-day grand reopening party on May 1 and 2. During the course of the 30-hour, nonstop celebration, guests could drum, make arts and crafts, hear lectures, juggle, square dance, tour galleries and do a whole lot more. There were tons of demonstrations with hula-hoop, hip-hop dancing, acrobatics, yo-yo and whistling among them. Activities in the wee hours included more dancing, yoga, chanting and music spanning multiple genres. In short, there was literally something for everybody. museumca.org
