Roam Artisan Burgers Expands to San Ramon

It's in the new $300 million City Center Bishop Ranch retail center, designed by the same architect who designed London's Shard.

Roam Artisan Burgers has just opened a new location at City Center Bishop Ranch.

Located in the Tri-Valley region serving San Ramon, Danville, Alamo, and Dublin/Pleasanton, the new location joins other East Bay locations in Uptown Oakland and Lafayette. Roam also has locations in San Francisco, San Mateo, and beyond. 

The new location, which opened on Feb. 11, is the latest outfit to launch at the new $300 million City Center Bishop Ranch retail center designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano (whose past projects include Paris' Pompidou Center, London's Shard, and San Francisco's California Academy of Sciences) in collaboration with San Francisco-based BAR Architects. 

Founded in San Francisco in 2010, Roam has spent the last decade confirming the values of sustainability-minded co-owners Josh Spiegelman and Lynn Gorfinkle — self-described "outdoor mega-enthusiasts" determined to bring their high standards to classic American family favorite foods.

To manifest an award-winning, hormone- and antibiotic- free fine-casual menu featuring open-pasture grass-fed beef and other meats as well as sides, sodas, shakes, vegan options, and seasonal salads, the pair partner exclusively with rachers, farmers, and other providers who demonstrate integrity. 

For instance, shakes are made with organic dairy products from pasture-raised cows at Straus Family Creamery, and Roam's burger buns are custom-made by Pacific Coast Baking Company. 

"Roam's mission is to enhance people's lives through better eating by serving delicious food that is made with nutrient-rich, high-quality ingredients," Spiegelman said. 

"We are thrilled to support and promote local farmers, ranchers and artisans that positively contribute to the health of the planet," Gorfinkle added.

Over 80 percent of materials used by Roam are compostable, and the company's cutting-edge programs divert waste from landfills as food scraps and packaging are largely converted into fertilizer. Roam's expeller-pressed high-oleic sunflower oil, used in cooking, also helps to fuel San Francisco's hybrid Muni buses. 

Roam also contributes to charities such as Best Buddies International and Raphael House of San Francisco, as well as local nonprofits in neighborhoods where its restaurants are located.  

Coinciding with the opening of the new location, Roam Artisan Burgers has launched two new menu items: a lamb burger and a blood-orange seaonal white-wine spritz.
