Suffering From Sciatica? Many Self-Diagnoses Are Erroneous. Let Us Provide You the Treatment That Best Suits Your Needs.

The Joint was founded in 1999 by a doctor of chiropractic with a “vision to transform the traditional, often misunderstood concept of routine chiropractic care by making it more convenient, friendly and affordable.” Today, The Joint has grown to a nationwide network of more than 464 chiropractic offices and counting, with one in Berkeley on Telegraph Avenue.

As Dr. Laurent Colvin explains it, The Joint is a wellness office to help people maintain their active lifestyle.” His office sees about 80 patients a day. Colvin studied Kinesiology at San Francisco State University and earned a doctoral degree from the Life Chiropractic College West in Hayward. He also was a personal trainer for eight years.

Can The Joint deal with sciatica?

Yes we can. But people often self diagnose themselves with sciatica erroneously. More often they have either Periformis syndrome or facet syndrome, which can mimic sciatica. “Often, we find something else going on and we can fix that too,” Colvin says.

How safe is your treatment?

The major thrust of our exam is to try and find reasons why we should not adjust a patient, and in those cases, we refer them out to other specialists. But, if we determine that they are safe to adjust and an adjustment is needed, we perform the adjustment on them in the office in that first visit. “By and large, our client base is very happy,” Colvin says.

What about back and shoulder pain?

If someone comes in with back and shoulder pain, we often start with the upper back, and often the shoulder pain is resolved. But if it is not we will address that as well.
