The Gastropig's Menu Expands

New items include Cubanos, kale Caesar salads, and more.

Uptown Oakland sandwichery The Gastropig has just expanded its menu to include hot sandwiches daily, along with seasonal items, freshly made salads, and espresso drinks.

The newest item is a summery BLT (bacon, lettuce, and heirloom tomato) on toasted sourdough bread, which can also be ordered with avocado. Other new daily items include a meatball sub, a porchetta sandwich, the "Killer Cubano," and BBQ pulled pork. 

All sandwiches are served with a choice of house-made macaroni salad or mixed green salad.

New seasonal salads include Cobb Salad with grilled chicken, bacon, and blue cheese with creamy cilantro dressing; Chicken Citrus Salad with pistachios and cilantro-citrus vinaigrette; and Kale Caesar Salad with pepitos and hard-boiled boiled egg. Breakfast burritos made with egg, bacon, home fries, salsa, and cheese are available on weekdays.

Meatless items include grilled-cheese sandwiches, tomato soup, avocado toast with cilantro crema, and waffle-iron hash-browns with cheddar and scallions. Dessert items include chocolate-chip cookies, chocolate-chip-bacon cookies, and "Monkey Bread" -- brioche pudding drizzled with toffee sauce. 

Accordion-style windows have also been newly installed across the restaurant's front section.

OK, and since we mentioned waffle irons, let us now acknowledge that today is National Waffle Day, a perfect time to celebrate all delicious sweet or savory flat-yet-fluffy delights topped with tiny, square, sauce-or-syrup-thirsty hollows. Waffle up, Oaklanders.
