The Halal Guys, once again confirming its status as the nation's fastest-growing quick-service-restaurant brand, is opening its downtown Berkeley location tomorrow with freebies, music, and more — and thousands of diners have already declared their intentions to join that crowd.
At a media pre-opening party last night, regional director of operations Renè Hjorth told East Bay 365 that this will be the group's second Northern California location.
The first one opened almost exactly a year ago to the day on O'Farrell Street in San Francisco.
"It was the biggest opening-day crowd at any restaraunt in San Francisco, ever," Hjorth said.
"It was awesome."
Over two thousand people lined up that day to be among the first to try the brand's famous chicken, beef-gyro, and felafel platters with all the trimmings, topped with a choice of bechamel-y white sauce, lemony-hot red sauce, and/or tahini.
The Berkeley grand opening — on Center Street, sandwiched between Downtown Berkeley BART and the UC Berkeley campus — will feature a live DJ from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. as well as other fun stuff such as a giant spin-wheel with food, drinks, and souvenirs as prizes. The first fifty people in line will receive free meals.
