This Thursday, August 3, is the seventh annual National IPA Day.

How will you celebrate the wonders of India Pale Ale, which has been brewed in England under that name since 1709 at the latest? By 1822, distinctively bitter pale ales were being brewed in London expressly to be sold in colonial India, hence the name. These brews' high hop content helped sustain their flavor throughout those arduous four-month sea journeys.

Honor Kitchen & Cocktails in Emeryville is marking this momentous holiday from 4:30 to 11 p.m. on Thursday by offering complimentary limited-edition glasses to guests who purchase pints of handcrafted Honor IPA (73 IBUs 6.5% abv, for you number-crunchers), which is brewed in San Francisco.

These glasses are being offered on a first-come-first-served, as-supplies-last basis.
