Is Clif Bar Coming?

This from Lauren Do's Blogging Bayport Alameda:

Sadness, we can’t even get it together to lock in a sure thing. Clif Bar is apparently terminating their relationship with Catellus because things are moving too slowly for their timeline. They had wanted to move in this year, and seemed willing to wait for a little bit longer after the whole instabilty of the pilings was discovered. But clearly not too much... Read more »

City Staffer Discharged

A 1959 graduate of Alameda High School, John Shaterian has spent the past decade ferrying important papers and mail between various city offices. His work took him from Alameda Point to Bay Farm Island and all points in between on his 72-mile daily route. It’s work the 65-year-old enjoyed.

Shaterian was fired Jan. 14, the Alameda Sun reported, after he was assigned a new vehicle, one he didn’t feel was safe. Shaterian, who plied Alameda’s streets in a 1996 Suzuki, was assigned a small golf cart-style electric vehicle in January for his route. “One day I got to work and there was a letter from on my desk, saying... Dellums' Proposal Opposed

Mayor Ron Dellums' plan to use $7.7 million from the city's 2004 public-safety ballot measure, Measure Y, to boost police department recruiting and training drew the opposition Monday of a residents' Measure Y Oversight Committee, the Oakland Tribune reported today.

Committee members said using the money for the entirety of Dellums' proposals would be imprudent.

Dellums and Oakland Police Department brass say the $7.7 million package is key to getting the department to its full strength of 803 officers by the end of the year,... Read more »

Jet Encounters High Winds

High winds in the East Bay blew a Marine Corps A-4 Skyhawk jet off its pedestal in Alameda Point early Sunday morning, the Oakland Tribune reported today.

The National Weather Service in Monterey confirmed winds of 41 miles per hour at the Oakland airport early Sunday morning. It also reported up to 1.5 inches of rain in areas such as San Rafael.

"The winds weren't large-scale enough to be severely impacting like other storms can be," National Weather Service meteorologist Rick Canepa said.

David Eisenhauer of Pacific Gas & Electric Co. said the weather did no serious damage. He reported that only 90 customers throughout the East Bay lost power, and fewer... Read more »

Earl J. Rivard

You can't keep the good ones down. Alameda native Earl J. Rivard was hit by a car when he was four months old and then, later in life, was hit two more times. The blind and partially-paralyzed Rivard doesn't let any of this get him down, releasing Troubadour Blue.
Track: "Saving Face."
