AC Transit

   AC Transit serves 67 million passengers a year throughout a 360-square-mile region. For nearly 48 years, AC Transit has been recognized as a national leader in the transit industry. The American Public Transit Association has named AC Transit the "Best of the Best" public transit agency six out of the past nine years. AC Transit was the first transit agency to join the California Climate Action Registry, a public/private partnership that promotes reducing greenhouse gases. Also, the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) of Washington, D.C., named AC Transit a "National Clean Bus Leader" for its advanced environmental initiatives. 
 
   AC Transit is continually exploring more sustainable means of providing public transportation. The agency is developing hybrid buses, installing thousands of solar panels on its facilities, and advancing zero-emission fuel cell technology. This fuel cell program is attracting global attention as it surpasses all expectations—achieving between 170 and 200 percent the energy efficiency of diesel. Everyday, AC Transit keeps tens of thousands of cars off the roads—and keeps their pollution out of the air. By advancing the latest technologies, AC Transit reduces its own emissions while serving as a model transit agency for the entire country.
