The East Bay Regional Park District has been a champion of environmental stewardship, leading the way since 1934. Created to preserve and protect East Bay open space, EBRPD takes seriously its mission to keep East Bay scenic corridors and wildlife safe, enabling residents to reconnect with nature.

“Open space and woodlands offer a tremendous benefit to society,” says General Manager Pat O’Brien. “Along with providing scenic beauty and recreation opportunities, this green space helps control pollution, erosion, and potential floods, making the East Bay a better place for everyone.”

EBRPD works hard to restore environmentally sensitive lands, transforming distressed areas such as former landfills into pristine parks. EBRPD is becoming greener by adding hybrid vehicles, building a more fuel-efficient fleet of service trucks, emphasizing recycling at parks and administrative headquarters, and teaching youngsters about environmental education through progressive camp programs.
