Essential Information

1650 Park St.
Alameda, CA

510-522-8777

Anchoring the northeast corner of the Alameda Marketplace, with a bird’s-eye-view of passersby, Ching Hua is a friendly upscale restaurant offering northern-style Chinese cooking, a handsome full-service bar and weekday lunch specials. It’s proprietor Edward Chu’s second restaurant (Berkeley’s Shen Hua is his first), and his mother, Jane Ching Hua Chu, oversees the restaurant and its “authentic Beijing and Sichuan dishes” and insists on fresh vegetables, fruits, seafood and meats. Start your meal with Ching Hua lettuce cups—meat, chicken, seafood or vegetables quickly dry-sautéed with sliced black mushrooms and chopped water chestnuts served with cold, crisp lettuce leaves and plum sauce. Lunch and dinner daily.
