The indigenous flavors of Puebla and Jalisco, Mexico, are celebrated at this Emeryville taqueria that displays something of a split personality. By day, it’s a buzzing cafeteria-style taqueria hawking burritos and tacos. But when the sun sets, the staff sheaths the tables in black tablecloths and dims the lights, transforming Cocina Poblana into a tony Doña Tomás–wannabe. Skip the chips, which arrive in a smart upright wire container with two salsas. Do dig into the Mole Mama Luisa, a grilled chicken breast under pumpkin-seed-dotted mole, the huarache tingado, an oblong sandal-shaped hunk of masa on a bed of nopales overflowing with beans, cheese and meat, or the other authentic selections. Breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
